It Was All A Dream…

I don’t usually waste any of my time with these types of things, but the other night I was checking my IMs before I went to bed, and someone I hadn’t talked to for awhile sent it to me, and I figured what the hell, I’ll give it a shot. I was actually laughing out loud when I read the results, they couldn’t have been further from the truth. I’m not gonna go into detail but it told me that one of my male friends was my “shining star”. I guess that just goes to show you that these things really were made for girls. It also said that “Fucking Hostile” by Pantera is the song that tells me about my life. Actually, it’s the song that was playing (Winamp was on random) while I was taking the stupid test. I’m not even sure why I’m wasting my time writing about this. I could be putting my time to much better use!

System of a Down has two albums coming out in 2005, and you know what? I honestly couldn’t care less. And those of you who have been visiting this site for a long time know how huge of a fan I used to be, for like three years they were one of my absolute favorite bands. Well, “Steal This Album” was pretty shitty, so I don’t see them making any improvements musically from that album, and I’m also sick and tired of politics in music. I realize SOAD’s first two albums were pretty politically-fueled, but for whatever reason, that didn’t keep me from enjoying it then… Maybe it wasn’t as obvious, who knows. That might sound ignorant or whatever, and yeah, bands should write about whatever they want, but it just gets out of hand sometimes. A Perfect Circles new album “Emotive” is nothing but covers of what are more or less war protest songs, and even if they weren’t originally written to speak out against the war, that’s how they’re meant to be interpreted on this album. I feel like their dedication to changing the world and all that good stuff is having a negative effect on their artistic integrity, and the quality of the music that they’re putting out. A Perfect Circle’s first two albums were absolutely amazing, and then they put this shit out. And then there’s this “Axis of Justice” concert album. I got kinda excited when I saw this in Best Buy, but didn’t have any cash on me so I downloaded it from IRC. Thank god I didn’t spend the money on it. Everything I could possibly say about this album has already been said in the reviews here. It’s terrible. I love everyone involved in the project (Maynard, Serj, Morello, Flea, etc) but this is just shitty. I’m listening to it right now and after I finish up the last few songs I’m going to delete it. I’m not sure if this is a rant about shitty music, politics in music, or both, but I just wanted to get a few things off my chest. This wasn’t well thought out, and I didn’t read over it after I typed it, so feel free to go through and pick out all the parts where I contradict myself and all that.

Slayer fans, prepare to (most likely) be angered. Lil Jon sampled two of Slayer’s classic songs, “Raining Blood” and “South of Heaven”, in a track from his new album, “Crunk Juice”. The song is called “Stop Fuckin’ Wit Me”, or something along those lines. Bi-curious? Here’s the mp3, courtesy of some poor schmuck’s bandwidth. Okay, that was mean. But all I did was type in “lil jon” and “slayer” in Google and that’s one of the first things that came up, so I doubt he has a problem with it being available to everyone.

Check out Buckethead’s Tribute to ODB. I think that the MP3 on there is pretty damn cool, the video is kinda strange though.

thanks for the lil jon link. i noticed it’s produced by rick rubin. he produced most of slayers stuff as well so maybe slayer fans wont mind much. i know i dont, i was all about slayer about 12 years ago.

Too bad you sold out as a SOAD fan. Go listen to gay hxc music.

  4. John Nov 24, 2004

I still listen to the first two SOAD albums all the time, I just didn’t like Steal This Album all that much. I bought it the day it came out but come on… You guys think it was just as good as the other two? Wow, I guess I did sell out. I don’t even listen to that much hardcore shit either, I listen to all kinds of stuff. Right now I’m bumpin the shit out of some Simon and Garfunkle.

  5. carol Nov 24, 2004

    simon and garfunkle kicks ASS

  6. Indo Nov 25, 2004

Simon and garfunkle? What the fuck I Hate those 2 flamin’ faggots there hippie music sucks. What genre is it anyways FOLK? I mean come on that shit blows donkey dick you gotta be an old grandpa or a geek to like it. I hate folk, Im a rap/rock person. I love hardcore gangsta rap and real lyrical rap, and then i also like real hardcore metal and some acoustical rock too. The only genres i really despise would be

    1. POP
    2. FOLK
    3. COUNTRY
    4. R&B (im talkin like r. kelly, laurin hill, fuckin ja rule shit, wanna be rap shit that just sucks with way too much hook and no real rhymes)

  7. Gregor Nov 25, 2004

i don’t see how anyone can take "steal this album" seriously and think that it’s good music when they have a song about pizza on it. that is quite possibly the worst song i’ve ever heard, right behind metallica’s "frantic" and "st.anger".

  8. Ed Nov 25, 2004

No, I don’t think STA is as good as their first two albums, but it was written at the same time as Toxicity so it’s not like they started sucking after Toxcity or something (not that I think STA sucks). So it doesn’t make any sense to think that the next album is going to suck. And Gregor, in case you haven’t noticed SOAD was never a very serious band. I’m really excited about these two albums coming out.

  9. Kevin Nov 25, 2004

Steal This Album was pretty much a B-sides/outtakes collection of shit they fucked around with for the most part (even though they have insisted that that’s not the case). Most of the album was written from the mid-1990s through 2001, so how could it not be a B-sides album? Just one of those bands who believe everything they write is just as good as something else they’ve done. I don’t care if they went back and rerecorded some of the stuff, it’s still old shit.

  10. nick Nov 25, 2004

the fact that you even put a link to that stupid fucking thing survey on here pisses me off u dick. i wasted like 3 minutes doing that shit. your so gay. im gonna kill a deer for you this weekend john and then im gonna wear its head around like a hat, ill take pics w00t w00t

  11. John Nov 25, 2004

The original songs were good and had potential. I used to have them all posted on here. They re-recorded them all for STA and though they’re mastered and are much better sound quality, I just don’t like the way they turned out. The demo of Chick N’ Stu was awesome though. And it’s not like my tastes in music have softened or anything, I’ve always had a wide variety of tastes in music. Nick you better give that deer the super-shocker, two fists in the pink and your entire head in the stink. Old-school shocker is for pussies.

  13. DEn Nov 27, 2004

Hey john, yea i agree perfect circle’s new album sucked, but i dont think they put too much effort into it thats why. and "steal this album" sucked cuz those were the songs that didnt make it to Toxicity cuz they werent good enough, but they figured since people are getting the songs somewhere fo r free why not release the songs and make money you know. alright keep up the goos job, im a big fan of this site.

  14. Ed Nov 27, 2004

    Hey DEn… diggin’ your band!

  15. seasickeyes Nov 27, 2004

Just think slayer ownes their song, so they let this happen…sad.

  16. John^2 Nov 28, 2004

Yeah Ed, me too, they sound pretty cool. And seasickeyes, my thoughts exactly. Although it’s not nearly as shameful as Metallica collaborating with fucking Ja Rule… It doesn’t get much worse then that, it’s like "hey, if you don’t have enough reasons to hate us already… here’s more!" (referring to Metallica, obviously, I can’t see myself ever disliking Slayer). I know this is what everyone says, but old Metallica still rocks. I actually even like some of the songs on "Load", even though most people say that "The Black Album" was there last respectable recording or whatever. But Kill ‘Em All and Ride The Lightning rock my dix0r off.

  17. dave Nov 28, 2004

i agree with you john, i think the unmastered version of steal this album was way better than the mastered version. especially why, or i-e-a-i-a-i-o. i’m still looking forward to what system of going to put out with these two albums though. just because STA sucked doesn’t mean these two will be bad. we’ll just have to wait and see :o

  18. Mr.Heineken Nov 29, 2004

Actually if I recall "Steal this Album" was being given out for free. SOAD was throwing them out at concerts and all kinds of crap like that. I don’t think they care.

  19. AiDi Nov 29, 2004

I listened to 30 seconds of that lil john shite and deleted it…pisses me off that shitty artists ( or clown’s whatever you call them ) STEAL good songs. Grr SLAYER RULE! anyways =) Steal this album was quite good..its was not as commercial as their last albums and they made some pretty good songs on it like mr jack.. Have a listen to Cacophony-Concerto if you wanna hear some amazing guitar playing…megadeth marty friedman is a part of it and that song is amazing =)

  20. Raum Nov 29, 2004

    Well….

Personally, I realy wonder where you got the idea that SOAD won’t be able to improve musically. Prettymuch every good band either shows experimentation or improvement in a new album, and SOAD definately has talent.

As for political stuff, I can see being sikc of hearing it time after time, but I don’t feel it should be a sort of taboo subject for music performers. If that’s the most relevent and important things on their mind, then let’s hear what they have ot say.
