Adventures of an SEO Tranny March 13, 2009
SEO Disa Johnson (formerly Detlev Johnson) has her (proverbial) panties in a bunch because Shoemoney outlists her on Google for her own name. Translation: When you search for ‘Disa Johnson’ on Google, a post from shoemoney.com is the #1 result (at the time of this writing, anyway). The funny thing about this is Ms. Johnson supposedly specializes in SEO reputation management. Reputation management is pretty much what it sounds like… Taking control over what results come up for your name when it’s searched for on the internet, by way of SEO. If she were a Reputation Management specialist, this situation shouldn’t really be a big deal. Anyway, you can check out Shoemoney’s post which explains the rest of the what’s going on. Anyway, my Disa Johnson link is one (small) point for her in this mini SEO war.
Did you know that John Vantine went to Ghana? I came across that a little while ago but forgot to post it here. I really don’t think a day goes by where I don’t think of some aspect my trip. It was definitely one of the coolest things I’ve ever done. I’m always checking out volunteer programs in other countries, most of which deal with teaching children. My dilemna lies in the fact that I have a job that I actually enjoy right now, and if I were to just up and leave right now, I’d most likely have a hard time finding a new job (especially one that I legitimately enjoy) when I got back. On the other hand, the longer I wait, the less likely I am to go live in a third world country for an extended period of time. The time to do this sort of thing is definitely while you’re young. Someone make a decision for me here.
Tor, a producer from Montreal, took a bunch of Sufjan Stevens songs, and mixed the instrumentals with Outkast, Aesop Rock, Brother Ali, and other good hip-hop. The results are pretty awesome. Most “mash-ups” don’t do a whole lot for me, but I really like “Illinoize“, so definitely check that out. You can download it for free from the Illinoize site. And if you don’t know Sufjan Stevens, check out the album “Illinoise“.
So St. Patrick’s day is this Saturday… I signed up for this Wilderness Tracking course in Jersey about 2 months ago, and I didn’t realize that it fell on St Pat’s day. No big deal though, I’m still looking forward to it. I did the Philly Erin Express thing last year, which is basically a bunch of school buses that drive from one bar to the next all over the city. People black out and throw up in the streets. It’s fun, but so many people go that you have to wait in line for hours to get into most of the bars. Basically if you get a good spot in one of the participating bars, your best bet is to just stay there. I know some people that are doing it this year, and it’s kind of weird to think that instead of joining them in being completely hammered and throwing glass bottles out of a school bus window at 1:30 in the afternoon, I’ll be creeping through the Pine Barrens of New Jersey. I’ll make up for it that evening though. Anyway, if you’re a drinker, have an awesome St. Patrick’s day. If not, have fun knitting, and tell your cat I said what’s up.

Not to be picky, but don’t you mean that St. Patricks day is Tuesday, the 17th?

Yeah, you’re right, most of the celebration seems to take place on the weekend prior though.
