Rothbury 2009 Lineup March 16, 2009
So the 2009 Rothbury lineup was announced sometime after midnight last night. The official Rothbury website seems to be down, but you can check out the lineup here. I’ll be honest, I’m not crazy about the headliners. When I saw last year’s lineup I was blown away, but this year the lineup isn’t as exciting for me. Don’t get me wrong, I’m definitely super excited for this festival, but I guess I had my hopes set a little high, and I was slightly underwhelmed by the lineup. There’s always room for additions, though. Why is Bob Dylan a headliner? I love his music, but he’s so old, and it seems like he doesn’t care about playing at all anymore, just going through the motions to cash a few last checks.
Anyway, negativity aside, I am excited for The Dead, even if they’re considered a nostalgia act at this point, it’s a band I feel that I should see. STS9, Disco Biscuits, Yonder Mountain, and Lotus – I’ve seen them multiple times and they seem to always turn up at these festivals, but they all usually put on good shows. Damian Marley and Nas should be interesting. Les Claypool will be cool to see, and he has a new album out (I’m actually listening to it right now). Chromeo will be awesome. Girl Talk was fun when I saw them at Camp Bisco. I really dig Railroad Earth, it will be cool to relax during the afternoon to their music. Zappa Plays Zappa was there last year and put on one of the best sets of the weekend. Grace Potter was great at Langerado and I’d like to check her out again. I like The Hold Steady a lot and I missed them at Bonnaroo in 2007, so that should be cool. I’m looking forward to all of those and more, but I’m not gonna go through the entire lineup now. I actually got my presale ticket over the weekend, before the lineup was announced, so I’m going either way.
