Slightly Almighty

So last weekend was pretty fun. At around 5 on Friday, the office turned into a big pregame. We played a few games of beer pong, and then hopped on a school bus with a nice buzz going. Continued to drink on said bus until we arrived at Oktoberfest in Torrance. I’ve never been to an Oktoberfest before, but it was… For lack of a better term, it was a total shit show. I made it a point to maintain some sort of composure since I don’t know most of the people I work with very well, but I’d say 80% of the people in attendance were absolutely hammered. Anyway, it’s nice to know that the people I work with know how to have a good time. The rest of the weekend was relatively low key.

I’ve been crashing on the couch in my friends living room for the past 2 weeks (since I arrived in Cali). Their lease is up at the end of this month, so we needed to figure out what the new living situation was gonna be. We checked out several places, and a few of them were pretty nice, but nothing was working out.

So I turned to Craigslist, and after weeding out transvestite escort services and 419 scams, I found some places to check out. We went to see 2 of them, and the first place was really nice. A 5 bedroom place located in Hawthorne.

I’m told that Hawthorne isn’t the nicest area, and it has a sort of stigma attached to it, but the area where this house was located seemed nice enough to me. The place has a hot tub, and a 2 car garage that will soon be converted into the ultimate man cave, complete with gym equipment, hydroponics (for growing tomatoes and basil, what did you think?), climbing holds, instruments, and a raptor pit.

Anyway, we can’t move in until November 22nd (when the current tenants will be out), so we got a 1 month extension at the current place. Living out of a suitcase (and several unorganized cardboard boxes) is by no means ideal, but I think I can suck it up for another month. The new place is awesome, so I’m pretty excited to get setup there and have my own room. Where can I get cheap furniture in LA? Salvation Army, here I come…

The nerd in me loves these pictures. These photos are awesome too, in a non-nerdy way.

Wow, I just spent way too much time playing around with this thingThe result.

The headline to this news story is one of the worst ones I’ve seen in quite a while.

This song changed my life. I’m not normally a fan of autotune, but here it is used in such a way that I get chills down my spine every time I listen. It may be my favorite song of all time.

Food Advertising vs. Reality – This is pretty awesome. I think I’d still eat #6, but the rest of those look pretty bad. Unfortunately I don’t think that any of these images will come as a surprise to those of us living in countries where fast food is prevalent.

Remember when I used to do “plugs” in my old posts? It’s certainly been a while… Back in the day, I would link to sites that asked me to, and they’d get a couple thousand hits or whatever, but at the time I knew nothing about SEO and link building. As luck would have it, this was back when my site was pretty damn popular and got a good deal of traffic. At that time, I’d imagine that the search engines looked at my site as a relatively strong authority site. Times have changed, and my site doesn’t hold the influence that it used to. But I promised a friend I’d mention his webdesign business. So if you’re looking for a new site, check out XpertCreations. He told me that if you mention my site, he’ll hook you up. And as usual, if you need a good deal on webhosting, check out Clear Data.
